Mission, Vision and Values

Our mission as a juried nonprofit organization is a committment to providing exhibition opportunities, professional development and mentoring within Lee’s Summit and the surrounding communities and engaging the public through the support and creation of art.

Our vision is to create an environment for visual artists in which they can exhibit, sell, learn, interact with peers, build inner confidence and add value to business and community.

Our values are to respect, value and encourage an appreciation for art in an ethical and courteous manner.

Description

We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing our membership opportunities to exhibit their artwork, interact with peers, and develop professionally. We are also committed to engaging the general public through exhibitions, scholarships and art class offerings. GOT Art on 3rd Gallery Home of Summit Art in downtown Lee’s Summit. The gallery strives to provide area artists a place to showcase their artwork. This opportunity is available equally to all artists, member and non-member alike. The gallery offers monthly exhibitions, art workshops, and art classes (adult and children’s) to the public.In addition to the gallery, Summit Art hosts and plans the Summit Art Festival. This growing event takes place in historic downtown Lee’s Summit and includes over 85 artists from across the country.

Artists must be juried in to become Summit Art members, with new members juried in quarterly. Annual dues are $50, pro-rated for new members. All Summit Art sponsored events and activities take place solely through the volunteer efforts of our artist membership. Sharing time and talent is crucial to the functioning of our group and expected from all members. We have volunteer opportunities for officers, committees, special projects and during the Summit Art Festival. GOT Art Gallery also has volunteer opportunities hanging shows, staffing the gallery, assisting with openings and other specific tasks.

Monthly business meetings are held in a conference room at Saint Luke’s East Hospital, on the second Monday of each month. Meetings typically start at 6:15 with a 15-minute “networking” time, followed by a meeting and a guest speaker. A Christmas party is held in lieu of our December meeting, with spouses invited to share the evening. Prospective members are encouraged to attend a monthly meeting as a guest to learn more about Summit Art. Other activities available for our members are: photography and painting discussion groups, plein air events, field trips and art opening events. Teaching classes at GOT Art Gallery is another possibility, as well as attending classes and workshops offered.

Member Displaying Opportunities
    • The Summit Art Gallery at Saint Luke’s East Hospital, is the largest art gallery in eastern Jackson County. Members can display up to 5 rods in assigned location in the designated gallery space as well as display small items for sale in the gift shop.
    • Various venues throughout the year, as opportunities arise, including the Fall and Spring concerts for the Lee’s Summit Symphony.
    • The Unity Village Chapel Art Gallery located at Unity Village in Lee’s Summit.
    • The annual Summit Art Show at GOT Art Gallery where each member may display 2 or more pieces during the monthly exhibit.
    • The Summit Art Festival, which is our signature event in the community. Members are automatically juried into the show by virtue of their membership and have the opportunity to display in a booth.
