Membership at a Glance

Summit Art maintains a membership of over 100 artists. Artists must be juried in to become Summit Art members, with new members juried in quarterly. Annual dues are $50.00, pro-rated for new members.

All Summit Art sponsored events and activities take place solely through the volunteer efforts of our artist membership. Sharing time and talent is crucial to the functioning of our group and expected from all members.

Monthly membership meetings are held at Saint Luke’s East Hospital, on the second Monday of each month. Meetings begin at 6:15 with networking and refreshments, followed at 6:30 with a short business meeting and a guest speaker. Prospective members are encouraged to attend a monthly meeting as a guest to learn more about Summit Art.

Membership Benefits

If you are not accepted as a full-juried member, you may be offered an associate membership ($30 per year), solely at the discretion of Summit Art.
Display opportunities listed below are available to full juried members only. Summit Art retains a 20%-25% commission on art sales, depending on the sale venue. Associate members are encouraged to take advantage of interaction with other member artists as well as classes and workshops  available in order to develop their portfolio and reapply for full-juried membership at a later date. Associate members are encouraged to participate in all activities of  Summit Art, except display opportunities.

  •  Display up to five (5) pieces of 2 dimensional artwork in the Summit Art Gallery at Saint Luke’s East Hospital, which is the largest art gallery in eastern Jackson County. Members are also permitted to put small items, such as cards or small prints, in the  Saint Luke’s East Hospital Gift Shop as set forth by the Summit Art Gallery at Saint Luke’s East Standards & Guidelines on the Summit Art website under the Members Only tab. Email Carol Monaco, VP Artist Relations/Curator for details. Note: 3D work is not guaranteed, as the gallery space may be prohibitive.
  • Exemption from the jury fee for the Summit Art sponsored Summit Art Festival held each October and also from the jury process for entry into the art fair (you must be a fully juried member by March 31st to receive automatic, juried entry into that year’s art festival).
  • Receive discounted fees for workshops at GOT Art Gallery, as well as for Summit Art sponsored workshops at other locations.
  • Print bins at GOT Art Gallery Home of Summit Art are available for members to display and sell a limited number of prints.
  • Opportunity to submit a piece of artwork and a link to your website to appear on the Members’ page of the Summit Art website.
  • Volunteer opportunities for members to connect with the community through activities with Summit Art, such as the Lee’s Summit Symphony.
  • Exclusive members-only events, such as plein aire opportunities, exhibit opportunities at Lee’s Summit Symphony events and field trips.
  • Summit Art monthly membership meetings including informative guest speakers, take place the second Monday of each month at Saint Luke’s East Hospital.
  • Monthly painting and photography critiques are held at Got Art Gallery and Saint Luke’s East Hospital for members and the public to share their work and receive comments and assistance from other artists.
  •  Improve your network and knowledge through interaction with other professional artist members. Find recommended artist supply vendors, learn new ideas and techniques for your media or business, etc.
  • Various levels of art classes are offered at GOT Art Gallery, some with discounted fees to members.
  • Members have first opportunity to teach classes at GOT Art Gallery.
Summit Art Membership Application Instructions

Required for consideration to be juried as a member into Summit Art:

    • Your application
    • Your resume
    • A check for membership dues (see chart below for pro-rated amounts based on jury date)
    • Artwork being submitted for jury
    • Label each piece of artwork submitted for jury with the following information:
      • Your Name
      • Artwork Title
      • Medium

Complete and print the New Member Application. Incomplete applications will result in a delay in your jury process.

Email Jury Chairperson Tammie Dickerson, indicating your interest in applying for an upcoming jury session. You will receive a response with details for applying.

Day of jury please bring your application, artwork and check (payable to Summit Art) between 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. to:

Five (5) completed pieces in EACH medium for which you are applying are required for jurying. Submitted pieces must be professionally presented. Artwork with glass must have a dust-cover backing. Claw hooks and saw-tooth hangers are not allowed. Submitted pieces must have been created within the last 3 years and must be original work produced by the artist, and not a duplication of another’s work. All artwork must be retrieved at Saint Luke’s East Hospital between 12:00 – 1:00 pm  on the jury date. Due to liability and storage constraints artwork cannot be held overnight. Artists will be notified by mail with jury results within 2 weeks of the jury process. Review the Membership Agreement prior to submitting your application.

Jurying is held quarterly in February, May, August, and November.
