About Larry
After years as a greeting card artist for Hallmark Cards, Larry DeGraff transitioned to fine art, bringing with him a deep understanding of composition and visual storytelling. He studied illustration and figurative painting at the Kansas City Art Institute and has trained with some of the nation's most accomplished oil painters.
Larry works primarily in landscape but is equally drawn to still life and figurative subjects. Whether painting in his studio or en plein air, he believes working from life is essential to capturing authentic light and atmosphere. His paintings often celebrate humble, overlooked scenes that reflect his small-town sensibilities—weathered structures haunted with memories or clear rocky streams where light becomes the true subject.
His work has earned national recognition and been featured in Southwest Art and Plein Air Magazine, reflecting his commitment to capturing not just what he sees, but how light transforms the ordinary into something extraordinary. Most recently, he earned Best of Show, at Paint the Town in Excelsior Springs, MO (October 2025).
