Call Coordinator/Curator: Barb Byrne

Call for Art: Powell Gardens Visitor Center Display Cases
It’s time to apply to display your art at Powell Gardens!
This call for art covers the entire season at Powell Gardens.
Display period is from mid-April 2026 through the first week of January 2027.
Initial installation is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 14. Artists must be available to install on or about this day.
Artists will be required to change out their art three times during the year: July, September, and November (specific dates TBD)
Artwork Size Limits
All of the art is displayed in locked cases. The sizes of the displayed pieces are constrained by the size of the shelves:
ALL shelves are 10” deep.
No single piece can be wider than 22”.
Since the shelves are 22” wide, artists may put two pieces on a shelf if they fit nicely.
No piece can be taller than 20”.
Most of the shelves are 11” tall, so they will accommodate only pieces that are 10” tall or less.
There are a limited number of taller shelves that the coordinator will assign to artists with larger pieces.
Jewelry artists may put up to four pieces on a shelf, IF the stands are small. If you use the larger pendant stands, then only two pieces please.
Artists must provide easels and any other items necessary to hold your pieces for the display.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The total number of shelves assigned to you will be determined by the number of artists submitting applications. Every artist will have at least two shelves.
Preferred Subject Matter
Since this is a botanical garden, much of the work we have displayed in the past has been nature-related. However, that is not a requirement. Just remember that this is a family-oriented venue and our art will be viewed by persons of all ages.
Number of Artwork Submissions
Artists may submit 5 -10 works of art for consideration. Please note that not all submitted pieces will be selected. Selection will be determined based on the number of artists applying, artwork size and space availability.
For the initial installation, the PG curator will assign specific artwork to specific shelves.
Once you are assigned shelves, these same shelves will be yours for the entire season.
When we do our change-outs, you may choose the pieces you wish to display. It helps to display pieces that correspond to the Gardens’ events or the season.
Artwork Sales
All sales transactions will continue to be handled in the Marketplace Gift Shop in the Powell Gardens Visitor Center. You will be notified when one of your pieces sells. You can replace a sold piece immediately. However, you will need to coordinate your trip to Powell Gardens with the Summit Art PG curator to be sure someone from the Marketplace will be present to unlock the case for you.
What to Prepare
5-10 Digital Images: Prepare to upload a “portfolio” of five to ten (5-10) digital photos showing the exact pieces you would like to display.
List dimensions of each piece (Height x Width x Length): Since the shelves have a specific height, height measurement should include any easel or pedistal used to display the piece.
Price of each piece. Artists will receive 70% of the sale price.
About this Call

All mediums may apply so long as submissions meet the criteria regarding artwork size described below.
All paintings, prints & reproductions must be matted, framed, & wired following gallery hanging guidelines (gallery-wrapped canvas and prints on metal are also acceptable).
Please direct any questions to Barb Byrne via email or 816-565-1977.
